The Cruise Travellers • Haven planning guide

The little details make the differenceWhat’s Included in The Haven?

A beautiful suite is only part of the experience. Let’s talk about the services, private spaces and everyday comforts you can enjoy, along with the details I want you to understand before you book.

What are you really getting with a Haven suite?

When someone asks me whether The Haven is worth it, I want to know how they like to spend their vacation. Do you enjoy a leisurely breakfast, a quieter place to come back to after exploring, and having someone help with the details? Those are the things that can make the experience feel special.

I also want you to choose with your eyes open. The Haven experience changes from ship to ship, and a wonderful balcony does not tell you how far you will walk to breakfast or whether the sundeck is convenient for someone using a scooter. The right choice starts with your daily routine.

Getting comfortable with your Haven team

Your butler: help with life in your suite

A friendly conversation early in the cruise helps your butler understand what you enjoy. Explain your breakfast routine, ask about in-suite dining, and share the small preferences that make you feel at home. You do not need a long list of elaborate requests to enjoy the service.

If you would like something special, ask whether it is available and whether there is a charge. Delivery from a specialty restaurant can carry the restaurant’s cover charge. Give the team reasonable notice, particularly for a meal or celebration that needs coordination.

Your concierge: help planning your time onboard

Think of the concierge when you need help with dining reservations, entertainment arrangements or the practical details of getting ashore. Share your priorities, then leave some room in the week to enjoy yourself. Priority assistance is useful, but it cannot create an available table when a restaurant is full.

My planning tip: If walking distances, stairs or tender access matter to you, let’s discuss them before choosing your suite. Service can make a vacation easier, but it cannot change the ship’s physical layout.

Dining, drinks and those relaxed mornings

On ships with a dedicated Haven Restaurant, having a familiar dining room to return to can become one of the pleasures of the week. You can still explore the other dining venues around the ship. Your Haven restaurant meals do not use a specialty-dining package meal.

Norwegian Gem, Jade, Jewel and Pearl do not have the dedicated Haven Restaurant and Lounge found on newer Haven designs. Confirm the designated suite breakfast and lunch venues and your dinner choices before booking one of these ships.

Read the package on your own confirmation

A beverage package, internet allowance, excursion credit or specialty-dining offer needs its own review. Check who receives each benefit, any package charges, and the limits that matter to you. Having a Haven bar nearby does not make every drink complimentary.

I recommend comparing the complete vacation cost rather than focusing only on the suite fare. Someone who wants reliable internet every day and several specialty dinners may have different needs from someone who plans to spend evenings in the Haven Restaurant.

A separate living area can be especially appealing if you enjoy time in your suite. Furnishings and layouts vary by category.

Private spaces, with a personality of their own

Before choosing a ship, look at its actual Haven deck plans and photographs. Ask about the pool, shade, indoor seating and routes between your suite and the shared spaces. Norwegian restricts Haven sundeck access to guests aged 16 and older; the courtyard is a different space, so families should check the layout carefully.

Some Haven suites sit outside the main complex. That may be a lovely choice if you value a particular balcony or quieter location, but the route back to the Haven deserves a closer look. I would rather help you choose a layout that works for your whole week than have you discover an inconvenient walk on the first morning.

What should you budget for separately?

Daily service charges and personal gratuities

Norwegian currently lists a daily service charge of $25 per person for Haven and Suites guests aged three and older. For two adults on a seven-night sailing, that is $350. Check your reservation for the applicable rate and whether you have prepaid it.

The butler and concierge do not participate in that shared service charge. Norwegian encourages individual recognition for excellent service; there is no official daily butler or concierge tip amount to apply to every guest. Plan an amount that reflects your experience and the assistance you receive.

The extras you choose

Allow room for excursions, spa treatments, shopping, photographs and any chargeable activities you want to try. Review minibar items before using them, because selected upper-category beverage benefits are not the same across all suites. Expedited laundry service also does not mean complimentary laundry.

A helpful question onboard: “Could you please let me know whether there is an additional charge before arranging that?” It keeps the conversation comfortable and makes it easier to enjoy your choices.

A few questions I hear often

Is The Haven all-inclusive?

There are important inclusions, but you still need to review packages, service charges and optional purchases. Ask for a complete quote that reflects how you want to travel.

Can I enjoy the rest of the ship?

Yes. You can explore the ship’s general guest areas and return to your Haven spaces when you like. Individual venues and activities may have charges, age limits or reservation requirements.

Will every Haven suite give me the same experience?

No. Location, floor plan, balcony, category benefits and the ship’s Haven facilities all influence your stay. That is why I like to understand your priorities before recommending a suite.

Is a larger suite always the better choice?

Extra space can be wonderful, especially when traveling together, but convenience matters too. Compare the actual sleeping arrangements, bathrooms and routes around the ship with the way your party will use them.

My advice: Choose The Haven for the parts of the experience you will enjoy every day. We can work through the details together so your ship and suite feel right for you.
